Rain doesn’t dampen Parr confidence in testing

Parr Motorsport had a productive day at Silverstone in free practice for rounds 13 & 14 of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB. The day started with rain, which meant the first session was a totally wet affair. Sean clocked up a dozen laps with Peter completing 19 laps in his Sesanti-backed car. Both drivers finished the session in fourth place in class having got some wet running in.

The second session started just after lunch and, with the sun out and a stiff breeze blowing, there was a chance the track would dry out. Both cars went out on wets first to see what the track was like. Both returned to the pits, with Peter parking up for the majority of the session. Sean changed onto slick tyres to get some experience of the circuit in drying conditions and to build his confidence in the conditions.

With six minutes of the session to go, a dry line appeared and times began to tumble but Peter felt there was little to learn after a productive test on Wednesday and so decided to abandon the session. Sean continued around to finish the session, setting his best time on his last lap to go second fastest in ProAm1.

Sean Hudspeth – FP1 – 4th in ProAm2, FP2 – 2nd

“We had some tricky conditions. In the second session we had a drying track so we went out on wet and changed to slicks later on. The track was getting better and better and I think we set the fastest lap on the last lap. There’s still some time to come from me and from the chassis. There are still a few things to sort out but we know how to improve. We did a test here on Wednesday and we were very fast on new tyres so we’ll have to see what we can do.”

Peter Kyle-Henney – FP2 – 4th in ProAm2, FP2 – No time

“It was a good day. In the first free practice session we did what we wanted to do. In the second session we were watching a drying track so I went out on the wets and came in. The other guys in the class were not really improving their times and were three seconds off where we were in testing on Wednesday, so there was little point in going out and pushing too hard. It’s all good.”

Josh Webster – Driver Coach

“We had a good test here on Wednesday but it’s been difficult to tell today because of the mixed conditions. We’ve got some idea but still the track wasn’t where it will be on Saturday so doing the test was good because we are a step ahead, so hopefully we can carry that into tomorrow. Pete was happy with Wednesday so decide to sit out the session, which I think was a good idea but we’re ready to go for qualifying.“

Paul Robe – Team Principal

“Generally we’re in a good place. It’s been a very strange day with it being wet in the morning but I’m happy as we didn’t have any trouble. We just wanted to wait for the dry of the afternoon but it didn’t come in until the last six laps and Peter decided that we weren’t going to make headway as far as times were concerned and he was right. No one achieved the times we achieved here on Wednesday. He has a rhythm in his head and we didn’t want to disturb that.”

“Sean was just exploring trying to get a bit more confidence. We are where we are. We’ve got to look at what we’ve got as far as data in concerned and what we can improve but it was a strange session and we’ve got to suss out if the feedback we’ve got is real or a track change but we’re in a good place.”
