Parr Motorsport drivers Sean Hudspeth and Peter Kyle-Henney showed encouraging pace in free practice, ahead of this weekend’s races at Snetterton for Rounds 9 and 10 of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB.
Hudspeth managed a lap quick enough to get inside of the top ten in the afternoon session, having improved on his pace since the first free practice session. There is still time to be gained though after he found time on a used set of rubber, but had to back off due to a spinner on his timed lap. That ultimately put him 10th quickest overall and second in ProAm1.
Peter also found some more pace in the second session, ending up second quickest in Pro-Am2 by the end. The team changed his brake pads between the sessions giving him confidence in the afternoon to extract a lap time that was good enough for the second fastest time.
Sean Hudspeth – FP1 – 11th, FP2 – 10th
“The first session was pretty good; I think we were six tenths faster than our main rival. So that was a good start. In the second session we were pretty fast on the old tyres, so we put on the new tyres and were much faster. Unfortunately, we just got stuck in a bit of traffic with a car spinning in front of me, so I had to back out so I couldn’t get the most of the peak of the tyre. Then my best lap was right at the end, but even then we were only a tenth off our main rival. We probably lost about half a second not getting the peak of the tyre, but otherwise I’m looking forward to tomorrow.”
Peter Kyle-Henney – FP1 – 16th, FP2 – 17th
“We had a couple of mistakes on that fastest lap which I’m kicking myself for, trusting there was more grip than there was. Then we came across a spinner who held us back. But we came here with some high hopes, the car was well balanced from the start. Had a little bit of an issue with the brakes in the first session, which didn’t help with the confidence in the car, but we sorted that out for free practice two. We’re P2 so not a million miles away, so pretty pleased really.”
Ben Barker – Driver Coach
“I thought today went well. Sean didn’t get the peak of the tyre and hit a bit of traffic unfortunately. But he’s close and he’ll get it in qualifying. Pete did a really good job, like he said he made a bit of a mistake but we’ll find more time for sure.”
Paul Robe – Team principal
“I was very pleased with the day generally, we were right up there. Sean was a bit unlucky, he got caught during his qualifying run and he didn’t get the best out of the tyre. There is more to come from him and if we can get the window right when we’re out there, I think he can go quite a lot better. Pete did a really good lap, he’s learned from the day and we’re looking at the data to see where we can improve. He had some brake issues in the first session, he had a bit of a soft pedal which didn’t give him the confidence, but we sorted that out and the car is working well now.”
